Ruedy, Marie L.
Marie L. Ruedy, 98, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Colonial Manor of Amana following a brief illness. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, with Elder Mike Shoup officiating. Burial will be in Middle Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Middle Amana Community Church. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society or Amana Heritage Society.
Marie is survived by her children, George (Shirley) of Cedar Rapids, Fred (June) of Naples, Fla., Ralph (Shirley) of Staunton, Va., and Barbara Jorgensen (Ray) of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Todd Ruedy (Patty) of Lakeville, Minn., Mark Ruedy (Margie) of Bettendorf, Anne Marie Stephens (Bill) of Brooklyn, Carolyn Ruedy of Middle Amana, Elizabeth Ruedy-Townes (Miles) of Arlington, Va., and Daniel Ruedy of Fairfax, Va.; and five great-grandchildren, Adam, Grant and Grace Ruedy and Ella and Jack Stephens.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred in 1976; a brother, Carl Hergert; and a sister, Helen Hoehnle.
Marie Louise Hergert was born Aug. 27, 1911, in Middle Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Elise Young Hergert. She received her education in the Amana Schools and worked in the community kitchens until the change in 1932. Marie married Fred C. Ruedy on Nov. 23, 1935, in Middle Amana. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as an accomplished cook and gardener. Marie was a lifetime member of the Amana Church Society and the Amana Heritage Society. She was instrumental in the founding of the Community Kitchen Museum in Middle Amana.
