To the editor:
I am what is known as an avid reader. Or maybe 'addicted” is a more accurate word. I go to the Cedar Rapids Public Library once or twice a week. I couldn't possibly purchase all the books that I read. That's one reason that the library means so much to me.
But more important than my reliance on the library, is the fact that I am really proud that Cedar Rapids has such an outstanding facility. Our library has been recognized nationally as a very special place. Whenever I go there, I see many young children actively enjoying their special section of the building. They come to borrow books, play games, use the children's computers and enjoy programs that enrich their lives. Our library has become a real community center, offering free spaces for meetings, programs and for cultural events. There also is a great auditorium for the public to use.
We don't want to see library hours cut or have less access to technology or lose the free meeting rooms. We don't want to see fewer books available or be unable to drop off books at convenient locations.
So, please join me in voting yes for the levy so that we can continue to enjoy this outstanding facility.
