Stastny, Jennie Irene
Jennie Irene Stastny, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, July 5, 2010, in her home. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William B. Harnish. Interment: Czech National Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Westside Chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. today.
Survivors include her children, Steve Stastny, Sandra Brekke and Jenine Beltz, all of Cedar Rapids, and Frank (Gayla) Stastny III of Newhall; sister, Lillian Houser of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Dusty, Robbie, Leonard, Nicole and Holly; and great-grandchildren, Hayden, Brad, Hailey, Michael, James, Trent, Alyssa, Evan, Olivia and Samantha.
She was preceded in death by parents, Michael and Irene Dmitruk; husband, Frank; son, Michael; sister, Helen; and brother, Henry.
Jennie was born in Cedar Rapids, on March 23, 1924, and graduated from McKinley High School. Jennie married Frank Stastny on April 25, 1947. She worked at Bordens Ice Cream Factory, the telephone company and ORC & B. She started at the Post Office in 1966, where she was the first female letter carrier in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1988 after 23 years.
Jennie enjoyed going to bingo and the casinos. She had a positive attitude through all her adversities and will be greatly missed.
