Vrba, Alice L.
Alice L. Vrba, 85, passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Bryan Regier of Faith Bible Church. A luncheon to follow at the church, 95 S. Mentzer Rd., Robins.
Surviving family members are husband, Wilmer J. Vrba of Cedar Rapids; and sons, William J. Vrba and wife Mary Kay of Cedar Rapids, and Michael A. Vrba and wife Chris of Robins. Also surviving are brothers, Charles Creson of Longview, Texas, and Sherman A. Creson of Pinehurst, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael A. Vrba Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Danielle Vrba of Robins, William Scott Vrba of Cedar Rapids, John Wilmer Vrba of Robins, and Amanda Vrba of Robins; as well as five great-grandchildren. Surviving family dog, Rosie, will miss Alice as well. She was preceded in death by her youngest brother, James Creson.
Alice was born August 7, 1924, in Evans, Colo., she moved to Seminole, Okla. in 1934. She met her husband. Wilmer J. Vrba in Seminole, while he was in the U.S. Navy, they married in 1945. They just recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
For many years, the couple participated in bowling and square dancing. Alice was an employee of Rockwell Collins from November 1951 to December 1982, before retiring after 31 years of active service.
She has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Mercy or Cedar Valley Humane Society.
Alice would wish that everyone view her passing as a celebration of a long and joyful life. She would also like to thank her family and loved ones for their thoughts and prayers, especially during the time of need during the 2008 floods.
