Myers, John E.
John E. Myers, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died March 18, 2011, at Evergreen Estates I following an extended illness. Per John's wishes no services are to be held. Private inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are his children, Mary Ellen (Del) Long and Joe (Katie) Myers, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Michael (Melissa) Long of Cedar Rapids and Marcus (Brittany) Myers of Mount Pleasant; great-grandchildren, Madison and McKenna Long and Vaughn and Chloe Myers; many beloved stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Velma Lea.
John was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Marcus C. and Mary F. (Peetz) Myers. He was united in marriage to Velma Lea Jeffrey on May 16, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. He served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed for many years at Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, and time spent with family.
