McCarty, James Francis
James Francis McCarty was born April 30, 1929, near Parnell, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Catherine (Weldon) McCarty. He graduated from Parnell High School. Jim worked at Amana Refrigeration for 10 years then went to work at Armstrong's Department Store in Cedar Rapids working in the men's clothing section for 29 years until retiring in 1988. Jim was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell and the Knights of Columbus. Jim died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his home in Parnell at the age of 83 years.
He is survived by a niece, Mary (Jim) Nebel of Washington; three nephews, Dan (Andrea) Weber of Newhall, Dennis (Pat) Long and Greg (Laurie) Long all of Aurora, Ill.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews, along with cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Daniel Paul McCarty; three sisters, Bernadette Long, Marguerite Crane and Therese Weber; and two nieces, Catherine Malloy and Cheryl Long.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Father Joseph Roost will preside. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Parnell. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg with a rosary at 4 p.m.
