Lewis, Evelyn
CEDAR RAPIDS - Evelyn Lewis, 90, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 27, 2010, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Fla. Memorial services were Oct. 2 at Metz Chapel, Cape Coral. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, Cedar Rapids, is serving the family.
She was born Dec. 23, 1919, to the late Edward and Lillian Ashenbrener. She was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids until shortly after retirement. Mrs. Lewis graduated from McKinley High School. She was employed by Singer Sewing Machine Co. and later by Linn County Iowa school system. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis retired to Florida in 1977. Evelyn loved to play golf, paint and play bridge.
Surviving are her husband, John Lewis, to whom she was married on Sept. 28, 1940, in Cedar Rapids; one son, Gary Lewis from Cape Coral, Fla.; one daughter, Linda Burns from Blue Springs, Mo.; seven grandchildren (Laura, Jerry, Angie, Christy, Brian, Brad and Matthew) and one great-grandchild (Jonas).
Evelyn was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed. Anyone who had the privilege to know Evelyn knew she was a warm, strong and loving soul. Her family has a lifetime of happy memories of family gatherings she hosted, and of the loving relationship with her.
