Male victim hospitalized after shooting in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS - A male victim has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot Thursday evening in southeast Cedar Rapids. According to Cedar Rapids Police Sgt. Jeff Herbert, the shooting happened about 6:00 p.m. in the area of 15th St. between 6th and 7th Ave SE.

The shooting victim was taken to a Cedar Rapids hospital for treatment of a wound to his upper arm.

Herbert could not provide full details of the incident as the investigation is ongoing. He did confirm that the shooting was not random and that there should be no further danger to the public related to this incident.

Herbert could not confirm the age of the victim and his identity is also being withheld during this preliminary phase of the investigation.

Police were still at the scene of the shooting as of 7:30 p.m. Herbert said.
