Dennis, Albert George 'Dutch'
Albert George “Dutch” Dennis, 93, of Lisbon, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service for Dutch will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, by Celebrant Mary Morgan. Friends may call Saturday from 3 until 5 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Monday, with military honors.
Surviving Dutch are a daughter, Sharon (“V.J.”) Reinken, Lisbon; son, Larry (LaVonne) Dennis, Cave Creek, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Chad (Sue) Dennis, Jason (Stephanie), John (Cassidy) Reinken and Laura (Casey) Baxa; and nine great- grandchildren, Courtney, Casey, Madison, Brynnley, Kennedy, Maddison, Lexi, Gavin and Becker.
Preceding Dutch in death were his parents; wife, Eloise; brother, Ben Dennis; and sister, Mary Dennis.
Dutch was born Sept. 20, 1917, in Mechanicsville, the son of Edward and Tina (Zenishek) Dennis. He moved to Lisbon in 1926, and married Eloise Nagel on March 24, 1950, in Tipton. She died April 15, 2007. Dutch served with the U.S. Navy during World War II at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, and was a member of Busch-Dennis American Legion Post 309, Mechanicsville. In 1941, Dutch started working at La Plant Choate (Allis Chalmers) in Cedar Rapids; he retired from Harnischfeger Manufacturing, Cedar Rapids, in 1980. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union.
