Henderson, Evelyn E. Kintzel Ciha
Evelyn E. Kintzel Ciha Henderson, 87, of Lisbon, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, West Branch, due to complications from congestive heart failure. Evelyn's funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until services Tuesday at the chapel. Evelyn will be buried in Lisbon Cemetery.
Surviving Evelyn are her children, daughter, Mary Ann (David) Askelson of Iowa City; son, Gary (Sharon) Ciha of Mechanicsville; three grandchildren, Paul (Rita Swales) Ciha of Lisbon, Natoshia (Dieter Friton) Askelson of Iowa City, and Aaron (Andrea) Askelson of Tipton; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor Ciha, Miles (Jean) Shultz, Hannah and August Shultz and Max and Sophia Friton.
Evelyn is also survived by brother, Carl (Velma) Kintzel of Cedar Rapids; a special twin brother, Everett (Doris) Kintzel of Blairstown; and brother-in-law, Howard (Phyllis) Ciha of Lisbon.
Also surviving are three stepchildren, Jana Henderson, Deanne Dunn and Ross Henderson; three stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; husbands, Bernard Ciha and Dean Henderson; two brothers, Irvin (Helen) Kintzel and Arthur (Velma) Kintzel; sisters, Velma (Elmer) Schluter and Dorothy (Mearle) Bixler; and brother-in-law, Willard (Viola) Ciha.
Evelyn was born June 7, 1923, on the family farm in rural Olin. She was the seventh child of Fred and Frieda Biere Kintzel. Evelyn graduated from Stanwood High School in 1941. She married Bernard Ciha on Jan. 23, 1943, at Clarence. He died Dec. 4, 1972. She and her husband farmed the family farm in rural Lisbon. Evelyn married H. Dean Henderson on August 30, 1975 at Clarence. He died Dec. 7, 1999. She worked as a cook at the Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon. Evelyn was a member of the Olin United Methodist Church and St. Mark's Methodist Church, Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for Evelyn may be donated to Camp Courageous or St. Mark's Building Fund.
