Shirley Rae Banes, 80, died Saturday, May 28, 2016, at her home in Williamsburg.
Shirley was born June 7, 1935, in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Kindred Karl and Ada Evelyn (Zillmer) Evers. She graduated from North English High School in 1952. On Nov. 2, 1952, she was united in marriage to Larry Keith Banes at Little Brown Church, Nashua.
Shirley worked at Procter & Gamble, Evans Photography and the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. She enjoyed golfing, flower gardening, traveling and attending her grandchildren's events. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
She is survived by her children, Garry (Darla) Banes of Des Moines, Kelly (Paula) Banes of Cedar Falls, Cindy (Tony Carson) Belland of Williamsburg and Lonny (Trish) Banes of North English; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Lyle (Dottie) Banes of Granite City, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Irene Blaylock of South English.
She was preceded by her parents; husband, Larry, in 2010; and a brother-in-law, Leon Blaylock.
Celebration of Life services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Powell Funeral Home, North English. Pastor Kirk Statler will officiate. Burial will be in North English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to English Valleys Community Scholarship Foundation or American Cancer Society.
