GERALD "JERRY" TWITTY
Cedar Rapids
July 15, 1943 April 5, 2017
Gerald Twitty passed away April 5, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He impacted many lives and will be remembered fondly for his genuine concern for others and his humor and wit.
Jerry was born in Rock Island, Ill., to Ward and Myrtle Twitty. In 1963, he married Kathleen (Johnson) and they have two children, Steven (Brigitte) and Jennifer (Tom Salido); and four grandchildren, Alyssa and Nic Twitty and Zach and Avery Salido.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Adam, and is survived by his sisters, Jeanette Booth of Cedar Rapids and Naomi Duncan of O'Fallon, Mo.; a brother, Bill Twitty of Milan, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry graduated from Rock Island High School and went to work for Collins Radio Co. in Cedar Rapids. In 1978, he moved to Arvada, Colo., and joined Storage Tech Corp., from where he retired in 2008.
He spent much of his time volunteering as a coach for youth sports, including football, basketball and track. He took up golf in his later years and worked and played at Indian Tree Golf Course in Arvada.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
Donations in his name may be made to the youth golf program at Indian Tree Golf Course.
