Dalpini, Joy Ann Aukofer
Joy Ann Aukofer Dalpini, 68, of Derby, Kan., registered nurse at Via Christi Behavior Health, passed away Monday, April 23, 2013, at Via Christi Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita, Kan. Joy lost her battle to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome after being hospitalized for 10 weeks.
Joy is survived by her husband, Dan Dalpini of Edmond, Okla.; stepchildren, Matt Dalpini of Phoenix, Ariz., and Laura Dalpini of Wichita, Kan.; children, Anthony Aukofer of Las Vegas, Nev., Andrea Horvat (Patrick) of Hamden, Conn., Michael Aukofer (Jeanne Anne) of Elgin, Ill., and Laurie Aukofer of Wichita, Kan.; brothers, Bill Schultz (Pat) of Robins, Iowa, and John Schultz (Diane) of North English, Iowa; sisters, Mary Ryan (Dave) of Lake Worth, Fla., and Jane Anderson (Jim) of Fallon, Nev.; and grandchildren, Kennedy Aukofer, Michael Aukofer, Samantha Horvat and Clare Aukofer.
Joy received her RN degree from St. Mary of the Plains School in Wichita, and earned a master's degree in management from Friends University. Joy was a major in the Army Reserves for 16 years, serving as a nurse.
Joy liked to dance and garden, but most of all she loved her grandkids and traveled frequently to see them. Joy's favorite trips were with her husband and siblings to Alaska and Ireland. Joy worked at Via Christi Hospital for 33 years. For the past eight years, she worked as a house supervisor at Via Christi Behavioral Health. In the past year, she worked primarily in the Acute Psychiatric Care Unit. Joy loved her job working with the behavioral health patients. Joy also worked with veterans at the Veterans Hospital Behavior Health outpatient services.
Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Faith Center, 2300 E Meadowlark, Derby, Kan. Arrangements are with Smith Mortuary, 7031 S. Broadway, Haysville, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Joy Aukofer Dalpini Behavioral Health Nursing Scholarship at Meritrust Credit Union, 2900 S. Oliver, Wichita, KS 67210.
