VICENZA, Italy — The Iowa men's basketball team completed its four-game run in Europe with another dominant victory on Monday against the Vicenza All-Stars, snagging an 88-49 win.
Once again, it was freshman Luka Garza who shined for the Hawkeyes, finishing an individual run of dominant performances with 24 points and 14 rebounds on 12 of 15 shooting in 23 minutes. Garza averaged 22.5 points and 10.3 rebounds in the four games overseas.
Coach Fran McCaffery said before the team left that he wanted to give the team an equal share of minutes and he told UI Athletics Communications after Monday's game it was mission accomplished on a few fronts.
'We accomplished what we wanted to in a lot of different ways,' McCaffery said. 'Everybody played, we played different combinations, we had phenomenal practice sessions, and we got opportunities for our incoming freshmen to contribute in a big way.'
Iowa dominated all four games it played in Europe, averaging a 46-point victory and 104.5 points per game as a team. The Hawkeyes shot 48.6 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from 3-point range throughout the trip.
Tyler Cook finished Monday's game with 16 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes of his own, going 6 of 8 from the field and bringing his four-game average to 12.3 points per game.
Isaiah Moss also had a successful trip individually, averaging 12.5 points and shooting 75 percent (12 of 16) from 3-point range over the four games. He also shot 66.7 percent from the field.
Cordell Pemsl and Maishe Dailey were the only players who didn't see action in Europe, both dealing with injuries.
