The rich owe nothing to the poor
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I am so tired of the government saying we need to “take from the rich and give to the poor.” Who do you think is giving to the poor already? Who supports the charities? Who provides the jobs?
The last I knew, this was the land of opportunity. Every citizen (and some illegals) have the same chance for the education needed to better their lives to become one of the rich. If some people don't take advantage of that chance, that's their choice, but are the rest of us supposed to support them while they whine about it or think they are entitled to help from the government? This is a democracy, not socialism!
And what's the big deal about Mitt Romney's tax rate? If there is unfairness in our tax system, why doesn't Congress do something about it? Because they are all taking advantage of the same system to lower their own taxes. And it's all legal!
The relatively few extra dollars that “the rich” are supposedly not paying would be a drop in the bucket compared to what is being spent on campaigning.
