Judicial elections would mean more ads, money

The Iowa Republican Party and the Family Leader's calls to remove Iowa Supreme Court Justice David Wiggins from office begs the question: What are we moving toward? Is it not enough that we have elections for the executive and legislative branches of government?
The Republicans and the Family Leader really want us to move to the election of judges. They have essentially turned the retention vote, which is about the performance of a judge, into a referendum on a political issue. So what is the next step? To have judges elected, like some other states.
Iowa voters: Do you want another set of elections in our state? Do you want more political ads on TV? Do you want more phone calls and door knocking asking for votes and donations? Do you want more political signs in yards? Do you want more money pouring into Iowa from outside sources who don't have our best interests at heart?
Iowa's system for judicial appointments is a good and fair one that is acknowledged across the nation. Please vote to retain the judges, if you believe they are doing a satisfactory job. Don't vote them out because you disagree with a particular ruling, unless you want more politics.
