Dave passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with cancer. Dave was an inspiration to all who knew him. He fought daily with the fatigue and ill effects of the cancer, but still tried his best to give 110 percent to his patients, friends and family. He was always the compassionate caregiver, caring father and loving husband. Throughout his journey his sense of humor and quick wit could always bring a smile or a laugh. Dave had many diverse interests. He had a deep love of music and played the guitar, a love of all various religions and their meanings, reading and gaining deeper knowledge of various subjects, writing poetry and he sure made his political view known to all.
Dave was born in 1951, to David and Maxine. He was the youngest of four children, grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and graduated from George Washington Senior High School in 1969. He received his medical degree in 1984. from UC San Diego, his pediatric fellowship at Stanford University in 1987 and his Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at UCSF in 1989. He practiced with Allergy and Asthma Medical Group of The Bay Area Inc. for 19 years in California. Dave was a very dedicated doctor and it was very important that he provide the highest quality of service to his patients. Of equal importance to him was his family. He felt strongly that they be raised with the same Midwestern values in which he had been raised. As a result, Dave and his wife, Robin, moved to the Quad Cities in 2008 to raise their two daughters, Kayleigh and Kiryn. He entered into private practice in the Quad Cities until his death.
Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Maxine McLean of Fayetteville, N.Y.; his wife Robin and twin daughters, Kayleigh and Kiryn at home; son, Eric Denmead of San Ramon, Calif.; stepdaughter Becka Parris of Vacaville, Calif.; sisters, Deanna Denmead of Ogden, Utah, Jan Novak and husband Rick of Wallkill, N.Y., Ginny Gaston and husband Terry of Cedar Rapids; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Naida Downey of
Manteca, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, David T. Denmead II.
The family would like to express special thanks and gratitude to all who provided special care and support for Dave over the years; his fellow band buddies and close friends; Amma and his fellow ashram devotees; his always helpful and caring office staff; Dr. Antonio Sanchez and nurse, Mary Jeanne Phillips and the other U of I care team; the wonderful hospice team at Trinity Pathway Hospice; and his many caring patients.
