Gerald "Dave" Barger, 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Randy Kasch. Inurnment: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his sister, Cherril (Donald) Homer; niece, Vicki (Paul) Schranz; nephew, Brad Homer; and great-nephews, Luke and Kevin Schranz and Ryan Homer.
Dave was born April 29, 1946, in Berwyn, Ill., the son of Pascal and Helen (Sickler) Barger. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 in Thailand in the medical field. When returning home, he was in men's clothing sales which he loved and his customers became friends and repeat customers.
He lived in the Aurora, Ill., area before moving to the Cedar Rapids area 15 years ago where he had many friends. After retirement, he became a caregiver to an elderly lady. They became close friends until her death.
Dave loved everyone and was loved in return by anyone who knew him. He was forever a giving person, always handing out gifts. He also loved the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Barger; his parents; a sister, Shirley Barger; and brothers, Darrel and Dennis Barger.
