DONALD M. SCHMITZ

Donald M. Schmitz, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday evening, Aug. 26, 2017. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, with visitation one hour before services.
Donald was born Jan. 27, 1931, the son of A. F. "Tony" and Laura Ann (Nolan) Schmitz. After attending country school, he graduated from Van Horne Consolidated Schools. Donald married Barbara Viktor of Cedar Rapids on Sept. 25, 1950.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; son, Mike (Pam) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Joseph (Robyn) of Atkins, Benjamin (Joanne) of Cedar Rapids, Carrie (Mason) Hoffman of Newhall and Jakub (Aarika) of Cedar Rapids; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandson.
