DES MOINES (AP) - Iowa Gov. Chet Culver is promising to take a more hands-on approach if he's re-elected.
Appearing at the Iowa State Fair on Monday, Culver acknowledged his administration has made its "fair share of mistakes" during his three years as governor.
But the Democrat says he takes full responsibility and has learned from those mistakes.
Republican Terry Branstad, a former governor, is challenging Culver. Branstad has repeatedly criticized Culver for problems at state agencies.
But Culver says his acknowledgment was not a response to Branstad's criticism.
Culver appeared at The Des Moines Register's State Fair Soapbox.
