Senators should have term limits
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Oct. 9, 2013 1:11 pm
Well, I see Sen. Chuck Grassley is running for a seventh term in 2016 at age 83. Has Grassley done some good things for Iowa? Absolutely! But does that mean he has this as a lifetime job? The president is limited to two terms. Why not our senators?
Does he think that no one else can do the job? Grassley said having “seniority means clout” and there is still a lot to “accomplish.” I am sure that is true. Just think, Chuck, if you run in 2016, then again in 2022 and 2028 - look at the “clout” you will have then. By then you may even surpass Strom Thurmond of South Carolina as the oldest senator ever. Oh, goody!
