Susan Cecelia Minger, 69, of Dubuque, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Springville Presbyterian Church in Springville. The Rev. Dr. Catherine Quehl-Engel and Monsignor Jim Miller will officiate. Friends may greet the family from 2 to 4 p.m. before the service at the church.
Susan was born Aug. 14, 1947, in Dubuque to Robert and Phyllis (Wessel) Schultz. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and later from Cornell College in 1986. She was employed as assistant director of institutional research at Cornell until her retirement in 2008.
She loved traveling abroad and learning about other cultures. Susan had a love for flowers, reading, animals and watching sports. Go Cubs! She was a Master Gardener and a member of the Cedar Valley Iris and Day Lily Society. She was an avid volunteer, lending her time at CASA and the Community Health Free Clinic in Cedar Rapids.
Most importantly, Susan loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their various activities.
Susan is survived by her children, M. Jeffery (Sharon) Minger of Anamosa, Benjamin (Gail) Minger of Dubuque and Sarah (Alan) Horak of Springville; grandchildren, Jesina and Kalli Minger, Isaac and Laney Minger and Emily Horak; brothers, Robert "Buck" (Sheila) Schultz and Donald (Bette) Schultz, both of Dubuque; nephew and niece, Zach Schultz and Chenelle Bechen; and her great-aunt, Colletta Schultz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Mitchell Horak.
Memorials may be directed to the family for later donations to Susan's favorite charities.
Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd., Dubuque, is assisting the family.
The family wishes to extended a special thank-you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Melissa and Lindsay S.
