Wyoming says it's playing Iowa in football in 2017
Mike Hlas Jan. 8, 2014 3:19 pm
According to Hawkeyesports.com as of 4 p.m., Tuesday, Iowa has two unfilled nonconference football dates in 2017. One is Sept. 2, the other Sept. 23. The Hawkeyes play North Texas in Iowa City on Sept. 9, and are at Ames Sept. 16.
Well, Wyoming says it's playing at Iowa on that Sept. 2 date. It's apparently a one-game deal.
Iowa has had far worse season-openers. Wyoming is a Mountain West Conference program that has been down on its luck the last two seasons, with records of 4-8 and 5-7. But it recently hired Craig Bohl from North Dakota State as its head coach. Bohl merely won the last three FCS national-titles with the Bison. If he presumably is still there by 2017, chances are pretty good Wyoming will have a very competitive squad.
The Hawkeyes and Cowboys have squared off twice. Iowa won 21-7 in Iowa City in 1953, and squeaked out a 20-19 Holiday Bowl win over the Cowboys in 1987.
