A prep football diary: Week 4

Reaching the top of the mountain is all you can hope for in life.
And in sports.
Anamosa football has been on that long climb up the past 10 years, and we have finally reached the top.
After a 43-6 victory over Goose Lake Northeast a week ago, the BC Moore power rankings have us as the No. 1 team in the state in Class 2A.
A 4-0 start, and a No. 1 ranking, has us realizing how good, and how special, this team really is.
What we've come to realize is, in order to reach the top on the field you have to reach it off the field.
I am certain there is a chemistry about this team that hasn't been there in the past. This team is special. We all like each other, we have a good time at practice — and we work hard.
It shows on the game field.
Thus far, we are outscoring our opponents, 170-44. We have the No. 1 scoring and total offense in the district, the second rated total defense in the district and, arguably, the best special teams in the district, as well.
Our work is not even close to being done, though. It is just beginning.
We know the toughest tests are yet to come.
Improvement is how championships happen. Every day when we get to practice we know what the goal is — to get better for that day.
We do not think about down the road. We focus on what we can control and that is how hard we work day in and day out.
Championships happen by continuing to climb that mountain, even when you think you have reached the top. There always is room for improvement — and that is what we are working toward.
Anamosa football will continue to climb for years to come.
