Loud noise downtown? Don't worry, it wasn't an emergency
Jun. 15, 2011 1:29 pm
If you heard a loud whistling noise in the downtown area, don't worry -- it was only maintenance.
Several people reported hearing a "weird noise" coming from the Cargill plant at 1710 16th St. SE around 12:45 p.m. Caller said it sounded like an airplane was landing in the area.
As it turns out, Cargill officials said they were venting steam as part of boiler maintenance at the plant.
The noise stopped after about a half hour.
