Kathryn A. "Kay" Neidy, 68, of Independence, died Sunday evening, Aug. 17, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Kay was born on Sept. 20, 1945, the daughter of Dale C. and Virgie I. (Peterson) Neidy. She was a 1964 graduate of the Independence High School. She became employed with the Mental Health Institute in Independence as a secretary and later as an income maintenance worker, working for 43 years before her retirement on Dec. 21, 2007.

Kay was a great volunteer, volunteering with the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary, serving on their board and as coordinator of volunteers. She also loved to volunteer at the Buchanan County Senior Citizen Center and the Northeast Iowa Council on Aging board. She was also very active in the Red Hats Group.

She is survived by a sister; Dolores I. (Larry) Roman, Cedar Rapids; a nephew, Douglas Roman, Cedar Rapids; a niece, Nina (Greg) Simmons, Quasqueton; and a great-niece and nephew, Alissa and Jacob Lewis of Quasqueton.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Virgie Neidy.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Independence, with the Rev. Scott Meador, officiating. Burial will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, Winthrop. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the church.
