Kernels-Twins will extend PDC through 2020

Aug. 5, 2014 8:03 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS – Cedar Rapids apparently will remain part of Twins Territory for quite awhile longer.
The Minnesota Twins and Cedar Rapids Kernels have come to an agreement on a four-year extension of their Player Development Contract, sources said Tuesday, with Minnesota providing players here through 2020.
The Twins and Kernels signed a four-year PDC that began last season and runs through 2016. The relationship between the parties has become strong enough that both sides want to work together well into the future.
Twins farm director Brad Steil met with Kernels board of directors members – who own the club - Tuesday afternoon and agreed to extend their partnership.
'No, I can't say anything,” said Kernels President Gary Keoppel. 'We had a good meeting with Brad. We try to have it once a year, where the board can come in and talk to him. Basically, all I can say is they're happy with us, we're happy with them, and we're looking forward to a long-term relationship.”
Steil declined comment on the extension.
