Pipeline could be hazardous project

To the editor:
Since the pipeline project was announced and I received notice that my land was in its path, I have become aware of the problems in the oil and gas industry. The Yellowstone River and Santa Barbara beach pipeline leaks are recent examples of industry problems. How would you like to have crude oil spills like those in the Missouri, Raccoon, Des Moines and Mississippi rivers?
Looking more into the pipeline industry, I found welding inspection fraud at an Indiana natural gas pumping station. The offending inspector only received 40 hours of community service for phony inspections. This was the kind of thing that can kill people. Do you want to live, work or farm near a pipeline built by a company that doesn't care about landowners?
I don't and this is not a done deal. Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI) is committed to legally intervening in the approval process for this hazardous infrastructure project and will be organizing meetings for community members to get involved with the fight against the polluting pipeline.
I am a member of Iowa CCI in order to empower communities across Iowa and take a stand for the needs and concerns of Iowans. If you are concerned about the dangers Iowa citizens face due to the Bakken Oil Pipeline, contact Iowa CCI at (515) 282-0484 or iowacci@iowacci.org and join us in upholding your community's values.
