Gov. Terry Branstad on Wednesday appointed Washington County Attorney Shawn R. Showers to fill a district court judge vacancy.
Showers replaces Judge Daniel P. Wilson, who Branstad had appointed in 1995 and who retired. The judicial district - 8A - includes Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, Monroe, Poweshiek, Van Buren, Wapello and Washington counties.
Showers received his law degree from Washburn University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa. He ran as a Republican for the Washington County Attorney position and was elected in 2014.
