J. Vincent McLees, 92, of Cascade, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at 11:15 a.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Vince may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Services for Vince will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
He was born July 11, 1923, in Cascade, Iowa, son of John and Catherine (Henneberry) McLees. He received his education at St. Martin's High School. On Nov. 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Edith M. Eilers at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. The couple farmed in the rural Cascade area. Vince was a Navy veteran, having served in World War II, and he was involved in the D-Day invasion.
Vince enjoyed farming, AC tractors, cutting wood, planting trees, playing euchre and telling stories.
He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, Cascade American Legion Post 528 and Cascade Historical Society.
He is survived by seven children, Phyllis (Dave) Valentine of Epworth, Ken (Julie) McLees of Scotch Grove, Donna (Ron) Miller, Marv (Margery) McLees, Dave (Jenice) McLees and Ron (Sharon) McLees, all of Cascade, and Diane (Gregg) Feyen of Bullhead City, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eunice Hauber of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith M. McLees, on March 19, 2009; a brother, Donald (Norma) McLees; and a sister, Patricia (Virgil) Stammeyer.
The family would like to thank River Bend Retirement Community, Shady Rest Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque. Also our sincere thanks to Dr. Isaak and Sherry Kelchen.
