Barbara Jean Meyer, 84, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center-West Lakes in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, with burial to follow at Waukee Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
Bobbie was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Ruth (Berryhill) and Harry Crist. Bobbie graduated from Iowa State University in 1949, with a degree in Home Economics and a teaching credential. In September of that same year she started teaching home economics at Waukee High School, where she met her husband, Vincent Meyer. They were married July 27, 1950, in Mechanicsville, Iowa. For 35 years she taught central Iowa young women, and later young men, to cook, sew, make a beautiful home and understand their children's development. Bobbie retired from Waukee High School in 1985.
Bobbie is survived by her children, John (Becky Boyer) Meyer of Warsaw, Ind., Jean Meyer (Brian Brockhouse) of Santa Clara, Calif., and Bill (Laura Davenport) Meyer of Elkton, Md.; her sisters, Virginia (Russ) Buchanan of Algona and Kay Wallace of Marion; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vincent in 2005; and her brother, Kenneth Crist.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church.
