Leone B. Sauer, 96, of Winthrop, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Buchanan County Longterm Care Center in Independence.
Leone was born June 3, 1919, in Liberty Township of Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward R. and Vena R. (Manson) Franck. She was raised in the Quasqueton area and graduated from Quas-queton High School in 1936. She attended Iowa State University in Ames for one year. On June 8, 1941, she married Vincent L. Sauer. The couple farmed near Quasqueton, where Leone was active in the 4-H Club, Quasqueton Historical Society, Quasqueton Garden Club and the Union Church, Quasqueton.
She is survived by her son, Tony Lee (Ellen) Sauer, Calmar; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Leone was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Vincent Sauer, on May 9, 2001; a daughter, Carlene Thom, in 2005; her stepmother, Helen Franck; brothers, Everett, Don, Roger and Ned Franck; and sisters, Phyllis Franck, Lois Wolford and Irene Franck.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, at the Union Church, Quasqueton, with the Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Quasqueton Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Winthrop, and 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Union Church, 212 E. Cedar St., Quasqueton, IA 52326.
