Vincent, George Donald
George Donald Vincent, 62, of Marion, formerly of Des Moines and North Aurora, Ill., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends one hour before the memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Christine; mother, Patricia Vincent of Bellevue; children, Tyler (Angela) Vincent of Waterloo and Courtney Vincent Strable of Des Moines; stepchildren, Catherine Cantrill of Cedar Rapids and Rebecca (Thomas) Bose of Marion; five grandchildren, Max, Jacob, Joanna, Andrew and Nicholas; sister, Michelle Vincent Jess of Bellevue; nieces, Natalie and Maya; nephew, Dimitri; brother-in-law, James Gassman of Darien, Conn.; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Fayelen Gassman.
George was born Nov. 4, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in 1968 and attended Grandview University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was posted in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, George graduated from Drake University. He married Cindy Lathrop in 1976 and together they had two children; they later divorced. George was general manager of KCBR (Fox 17) in Des Moines in the mid-1980s where he hosted “The $100 Movie.” He moved to Chicago in 1988 and worked in accounting and as a financial analyst for several large corporations. In 2000, George married Christine (Cedarstrom) Cantrill in Des Moines. He and Christine moved back to Iowa from Illinois in 2009 to be with family.
A memorial fund has been established in George's memory.
