After high school he entered the U.S. Navy and then returned to civilian life and worked at Wilson Packing Co., later known as Farmstead Foods. Jack Carfrae asked Dick and another co-worker to come into his newly established business which became Carfrae Meat Com. Dick worked as a butcher for Carfrae for over 20 years.
On March 20, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Fisher at the Methodist Church Chapel in Iowa City. To this union three children were born: Valerie Jones of Poquoson, Va., Brad (Jennifer) Vincent of Solon and Allen Vincent of Ely.
Surviving Dick are his wife, Mary Jean of Hiawatha; his three children; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; one great-grandson; one stepgreat-grandson; his brother, Bob of New Mexico; and sister, Sue (Dick) Wolfer of New York. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman, which he loved to do with his boys and his grandson, Adam. He also loved to fly and was a private pilot.
Above all, Dick was a friend to all, a loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all.
