It's funky uniform night. And so, check the top of the post.
Man, Patrick Vint from Black Heart Gold Pants is right. For a dude who's professed zero interest in the uniforms, I sure the heck have written a lot about them.
This is the last roundup. I wanted to carry this over the goal line. I hope Iowa football put out its video, because I'm posting this right at 4:30 when they start their social media brigade.
Then again, maybe this is all subertfuge and so I will see you in a few minutes because I've got to run out and shoot a picture of the Minnesota truck or the Oklahoma State bus.
Pretty sure these are the uniforms.
I've been kind of surprised by some of your reactions, which I would say are borderline PO'd. I don't understand an emotional reaction to . . . uniforms? I get the general 'thumbs down,” that's the nature of our culture anymore. I submit something to you, you react. That's how this works. I probably need to understand that a little more keenly.
Whatever your reaction is I think the point is that Kirk Ferentz is your dad and your dad just gave you the keys to the good car. Dad finally caved and you'll soon be taking your date to the disco in the Coup de Ville. There probably will be more of these. Maybe even every year. (KF hasn't said that, but, hey, maybe. Dare to dream, people.)
Few factlets on the game:
- I read on Twitter that Ferentz said RB Jordan Canzeri is starting. Pretty great news if you're Iowa. No news yet on sophomore Akrum Wadley (ankle), who left early in the second half with a slight ankle injury last week. He didn't practice early in the week. We'll see here very soon, probably before the game.
Iowa has a chance to have all four RBs healthy and in uniform for the first time since the season opener.
- OT Ike Boettger? He made the trip and was in uniform last week, but didn't play. KF didn't say for sure, but it sounded as if he was a no for tonight.
- KF also apparently told BTN that CJ Beathard is 'climbing” the health ladder. That's a good thing, kind of a surprise. I haven't seen this interview, because I've been on the wrestling thing today.
- All four QBs on the field. CJB is wearing a toque. That's Canadian for stocking cap.
- TE Jameer Outsey is back in the game. He was off the field for a few weeks. Nothing ever disclosed.
- RB Akrum Wadley is out there. Taking handoffs and testing cuts. I don't know if he'll be in tonight. The three other RBs - Jordan Canzeri, LeShun Daniels and Derrick Mitchell - are out there warming up.
Wadley suffered an ankle injury. Wait, I'm repeating myself. We'll just have to see on him.
- I don't see strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle working anyone out. That's good. That usually means the player might not make it out.
- It is Henry Kray-gurr Coble. I've been saying it wrong all these years.
- Iowa's backup backup punter seems to be true freshman walk-on Colten Rastetter.
- For the first time in weeks, we have a Mick Ellis sighting. The sophomore kicker is on a redshirt track this year. Iowa will have a kicking competition between Ellis and redshirt freshman Miguel Recinos next season, with senior Marshall Koehn graduating.
- I saw a 96 run out with the specialists. I think maybe DE Matt Nelson is a backup long snapper. He looked kind of limpy.
- Dolph just said that LeShun Daniels will start at RB tonight. Nothing on Wadley yet.
- KF: CJB is getting a little healthier, healthier than he's been the last few weeks.
- KF: LeShun starts. Canzeri is a hopeful. Akrum missed time during week, should be ready to go.
- KF: Strong safety Miles Taylor is ready to go. Remember, last week he suffered a banged up knee on the track at IU.
- KF did say that Daniels is the healthiest back. He's said all year long that's the metric. And so, that's the metric.
- Boettger is the No. 2 right tackle tonight. The same O-line as last week will start. Cole Croston is in there. Radio said Boettger was a game-time decision.
- Backup OL was left to right: Dalton Ferguson (a walk-on from Solon who's quietly been in this spot the last few weeks), James Daniels, Eric Simmons, Keegan Render and Boettger.
- Backup DL: Nelson, Faith Ekakitie, Kyle Terlouw and Bud Spears.
OK, kickoff is 25 minutes out. Enjoy the game.
