David Lawrence Taylor, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. No service will be held. A private burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Jennifer Toneff of Dunkerton and Jeffrey (Brooke) Taylor of Marion; brothers, Johnathan, Steven, Joseph and Daniel; and grand-children, Colin Taylor, Delaney Toneff and Reegan Toneff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steven Taylor; former spouse, SuzAnne Taylor; and son-in-law, Chris J. Toneff.
Dave was born Feb. 5, 1945, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Bernice (Perleth) Taylor. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High and the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). Dave and SuzAnne Walz were united in marriage on Dec. 27, 1969, in Glen Haven, Wis. They were later divorced. Dave was a lifelong entrepreneur, owning and operating many successful businesses, including the Auto Mart Corp. in Cedar Rapids for the past 36 years.
Dave enjoyed cars, boating and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a gifted teacher and a kind and loving man.
An open house for family and friends to celebrate Dave's life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Edgewood Road Hy-Vee Club Room, 550 Edgewood Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids.
