Cedar Valley still seeking football facility

CEDAR RAPIDS -- In its search for turf, the Cedar Valley Christian football program has nothing concrete yet.
"We've got some offers (for a football facility). People really want to help us out," said Stephanie Hodge, the school's athletics driector. "We haven't made a decision yet. Ideally, we would like something of our own at the school, but that would be difficult."
Cedar Valley Christian announced recently that it will start an eight-man football program as part of its athletics programs' sanctioning by the Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Hodge said she has been in discussion with officials from St. Joseph Catholic School in Marion, among other schools, about practice sites.
She also said that the school's varsity schedule for 2011 remains at four games, against West Central, Dunkerton, Midland and Central City. The Huskies open against West Central on Aug. 19.
"Springville and Meskwaki (Settlement School) already have nine-game schedules and can't add us," Hodge said. "We might add games against some JV teams, but we're still looking for some varsity (opponents) as well."
All of the Huskies' games in 2011 will be played on the road before they play a full, home-and-away, nine-game schedule in 2012.
In other CVC news, Hodge said the school will play varsity boys' soccer "for sure, and we're interested in adding girls' soccer. Baseball is a possibility, and we have someone who has offered to coach cross country."
