Special teams kicked some dirt off itself last week and came back to life with two well-covered kicks in the fourth quarter.

Yes, most programs take covering a kick for granted, for the most part, but the Hawkeyes have had their struggles the last two seasons, as you're well aware of. No one outside of special teams co-coaches Lester Erb and Darrell Wilson could appreciate it more than maybe Kirk Ferentz.

Tom Donatell and Joe Audlehelm made tackles last week that the kick cover team hadn't made in the two previous weeks.

The kick cover is hardly out of the woods, but could it at least see some light through the trees?
