Letter: Give golf a fair chance

To the golf department:
Instead of trying to find ways to increase play and increase pace of play, the golf department threw golfers another curve ball. The golf department removed the yardage marker stakes of 100, 150 and 200 yards and put in a bush at 150 at Ellis Golf Course.
So, now golfers will be spending more time looking for the sprinkler heads (slowing play down), which in many cases have unreadable markers on them. Not everyone has a golf GPS to assist with that. Also, with the stakes, if a golfer hits next to them he could have a free drop, but now if a golfer hits into the bush the golfer will either 'kill” the bush trying to get out or he will take a penalty stroke.
What's next? The removal of the color of flags indicating front, center or back?
Maybe instead of looking to privatize the courses we need to look for better management.
