Parents should be able to use common sense

Lenore Skenazy made a really good point in her column (“Mother judged too harshly,” Jan. 25) about a mother being charged with child abuse for leaving a child in a car for just a minute or two.

On many occasions, I have had to drop a child off at Head Start when I had as many as three younger children with me.

I'm sure it would have been safer for them to stay buckled into their car seats in a locked car for two minutes while I escorted the child into the building. But I didn't dare do that because I would have been charged with child abuse.

Isn't it more dangerous to try to cross a busy driveway with a bunch of active little kids? Fortunately, none of the children ever got hit, but it sure made me nervous.

What has happened to common sense?
