Letter: Motorists should drive with caution

Attention must be given to the reported 382 vehicle deaths in Iowa. The legal and moral issues in operating a vehicle should meld.
Every side road and every driveway are accidents waiting to happen, more-so for cyclists. Driving the speed limit on an open road or a built up area is legal while 25 may be too fast. Operators must be morally ready and able, on all surfaces, to stop when evasion is not possible. Vehicles clash in normal weather primarily because operators are not alert. Driving around corners is a must while coasting or cutting corners is a no-no. On slick, icy, and snowy surfaces many operators lack the skill necessary. Only fools drive the legal permitted speeds, sliding through stop or yield signs and unable stop in a clear distance.
The time saved in moral driving may preclude a memory of causing grief, death and costly court actions.
