Caryl Ann Batchelder Smith passed away March 20, 2017, after a 15-year battle with ovarian cancer. Per Caryl's wishes, there will be no service.

She was preceded in death by daughters, Melody and Julie; and three of her birth siblings.
Hubby Tom resides in Grundy Center. Son Tim (wife Sandra) and their children, Kayla and Josh, live in Hastings, Minn. Son-in-law Leroy Oetker and his sons, Jeffrey (wife Carley) and Thomas (wife Tressa) and children, Alyssa and Sophie, all live in the Grundy Center area, and Leroy's youngest son, Christopher, and his daughter, Lorelei, live in Cedar Rapids.
Caryl had an endless amount of courage and optimism. As Kayla said in a school paper, she will always be our hero.
