Finch, Jewell Karena
Jewell Karena Finch, 98, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, died there Monday, March 7, 2011. Services: noon Saturday, March 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Deb Black. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Jewell is survived by her son and his wife, Vernon Dean and Carol Jane Finch of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Christi (Scott) Gustad, Gregory (Christine) Finch and Denise (Marty) Wakelyn; five great-grandchildren, Kimberely, Megan and Bradley Sturch, Sean Gustad and Douglas Wakelyn; her caring niece and nephew, Donna Fitzgerald and Tom Owen; and many other nieces and nephews.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Mae Monson; her husband, Everett Finch; and her three siblings, Kenneth Monson, Olive Owen and Jean Cambell.
Jewell was born on Sept. 19, 1912, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Isaac and Mae Odella (Madison) Monson. She graduated from Grant High School in 1929. On Feb. 16, 1935, Jewell was united in marriage with Everett Vernon Finch. Everett passed away on Dec. 22, 1971.
Jewell was the bookkeeper for Lapes Florist in Cedar Rapids, for 52 years. Jewell was a long time member of Salem Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
