Two people from Anamosa suffered serious injuries when they were thrown from a motorcycle Monday in Wisconsin, authorities said.
According to a report in The Capital Times newspaper, William Salyars, 43, and Julie Salyars, 53, both of Anamosa, crashed around 4 p.m. Monday along County W in New Diggings, Wisc. William Salyars was driving the motorcycle west on the highway when he pulled into the eastbound lane in a no-passing zone, according to the Lafayette County sheriff's office.
Salyars lost control as he tried to avoid an oncoming vehicle, and both riders were thrown off into a ditch, authorities said.
Stacy Eads, of Maquoketa, said she was on the scene shortly after the accident. She said three people with medical experience aided the couple until emergency crews arrived.
“All three of them did an amazing job and stopped to help without anyone asking,” Eads wrote in an e-mail.
Both riders were taken to a hospital in Dubuque. Information about the severity of their injuries was not immediately available. An investigation was continuing.
