Kurth, Jane 'Sam' K.
Jane “Sam” K. Kurth, 65, died at home Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, with Pastor Rob Dotzel officiating. Sunday parking ordinances will apply. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Jane, better known to her friends as Sam, was born July 16, 1947, in Iowa City, the daughter of Harold and Lela (Hinkley) Kruse. She was a 1965 graduate of Lone Tree High School. On Feb. 27, 1971, Sam married Keith Kurth in Lone Tree. On Feb. 23, 1973, Sam and Keith's son, Ryan, was born. Sam devoted the rest of her life to the care of their special son.
Sam was passionate about gardening, especially raising house plants. She lovingly cared for the many wonderful pets that became a part of their family over the years, recently Karly, their beloved schnauzer.
Sam is survived by her devoted husband, Keith; their son, Ryan; her mother, Lela Kruse of Hills; her brother, Terry (Sandy) Kruse of Lone Tree; her in-laws, Virgil and Gertrude Kurth of Monona; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Jean) Kurth and Donald (Edith) Kurth; and seven nieces and nephews and their families.
Sam was preceded in death by her father.
Sam will be greatly missed.
