Regina opens at No. 1 in 2A

Iowa City Regina opens the season as the top-ranked softball team in Class 2A.
The Regals were 21-21 and placed seventh at the state tournament last year.
Other top-ranked teams are Johnston (Class 5A), Dallas Center-Grimes (4A), Sergeant Bluff-Luton (3A) and Akron-Westfield (1A).
DCG and Akron-Westfield are defending state champions.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson (33-12) and Cedar Rapids Prairie (29-16) were fifth and sixth last year in 5A. They start this season at fifth and 10th.
Cedar Rapids Xavier (29-12) is No. 7 in Class 4A.
Five Wamac Conference teams are rated. Solon (41-4) and West Delaware (25-15) are fourth and 11th in 3A, while Benton Community (31-6), Center Point-Urbana (26-15) and Mount Vernon (24-15) are fifth, seventh and 12th in 3A.
Highland (32-4), which fell to Regina in last year's regional finals, is No. 2 in 2A. Alburnett (23-17) is 12th.
Sigourney (21-6) is 15th in 1A.
