Labels connected to words and deeds

I read the recent syndicated column by Marc Thiessen ('Trump can call Dems' bluff on border security,” Feb. 3). He seems to be fascinated by a new representative, Alexandria Oscasio-Cortez of New York, as what he wrote took up about a third of the page. So, I read about him online and saw Thiessen is trying to label one of the political parties as 'the death party.” I am old and remember what happened in Central America in the 1980s. Unfortunately, with the appointment of Elliott Abrams as Venezuelan envoy, 'the death party” label may already be in use.

Death is not a word I use casually. I especially would not use it if I were a man and the issue involved was a woman's or medical issue. Thiessen's knee jerk labels got my attention. And his comments worked to get my mind off issues like pushing back families fleeing those same Central American countries Abrams and others in the government 'assisted” a few years ago, into now dangerous Mexican border towns. (Young readers: please look up the history of Nicarguaran, Guatemalan, and EL Salvadoran genocides and also why Costa Rica escaped that fate.)

Mean, racist, unthinking, unkind, selfish, greedy, egotistic, hubris prone. Those are labels that can be applied to individuals by looking at their actions, as well as their words. Be you a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, your group is made up of many different people. You do not deserve to be labeled by the likes of Thiessen.
