Public transit eases city’s road burden

Is it just me, or does this city need a better public transit system? For a town this size, it's unacceptable you can't get anywhere via city bus much past 6 p.m. I've been in other cities with similar demographics, size and population density, and yet they have buses running 24 hours per day. Why penalize those who are using public transit (already easing the burden on our roads) by making us pay a (sales) tax on roads we ourselves don't even drive on?
I think we need to get our priorities straight on addressing which parts of our infrastructure needs fixing, and which are just pork-barrel projects. If we all could learn to use mass transit, carpooling with our neighbors, and driving together as a family unit, perhaps then our roads wouldn't need to be fixed so often.
