Rockwell Collins has received contracts to provide equipment for an airline in Brazil and the military in India.
Azul Brazilian Airlines has selected a host of Rockwell Collins avionics, including its MultiScan ThreatTrack weather radar and GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver for 58 Airbus A320neo aircraft. Deliveries will begin in September.
Azul will begin receiving the A320neo in September with the first aircraft entering service in November. The airline expects to receive six A320neo airliners in 2016 and eight in 2017.
Boeing selected the Cedar Rapids-based avionics and communications company to provide its Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) for 15 CH-47F Chinook helicopters for the Indian Ministry of Defence.
'We have a successful track record of integrating CAAS on Chinook helicopters that will ensure that the Indian Defence Ministry will receive on-time, on-budget, advanced avionics,” said Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of Airborne Solutions for Rockwell Collins, in a news release 'The CAAS cockpit provides pilots with enhanced situational awareness while reducing crew workload and enhanced levels of flight safety.”
The system initially was developed for the U.S. Army's Special Operations Aviation MH-47G Chinook and MH-60L/M Black Hawk aircraft. Adopted by the U.S. Army as standard CH-47F cockpit avionics, CAAS is installed on more than 400 Chinooks worldwide and is expected to be installed in another 200 aircraft across the U.S. Army, Navy and Coast Guard over the next 10 years.
Integration work is scheduled to begin this year and run through 2018. The Rockwell Collins India Design Center will provide implementation and testing of specific software changes requested by the Indian Army to meet key mission needs and safety requirements.
'This contract and the work we're performing in country reaffirms our commitment to ‘Make in India' initiatives,” said Sunil Raina, managing director of Rockwell Collins India, in the news release.
Rockwell Collins also has received a contract from Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) to supply communications and navigation components for radios being manufactured in India by ECIL for Indian defense forces.
The components supplied by Rockwell Collins are used for integration into digital V/UHF radio, an Internet Protocol-enabled state-of-the-art transceiver for ship to ship, ship to shore and ground to air communications.
