Byse, Reta R.
Reta R. Byse, 96, of Higley Mansion, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday. Pastor Jim Bonewald will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Lowell “Cliff” (Geri) of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Marie “Elaine” (Don) Montgomery of Vinton and Patricia Schuetzle of Delhi; one brother, Larry Sills of Marion; and two sisters, Dorothy Bencke of Newton, Mass., and Joyce (Delbert) Albin of Palo. She is also survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Montgomery, who passed away in 2003; five brothers and two sisters.
Reta was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Cliff and Blanche (Andrews) Sills. She married Lowell S. Byse on Oct. 17, 1932, in Rock Island, Ill. He died in 2003. Reta worked in sales at Newton Jewelry for several years.
She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and the Phythian Sisters.
Reta was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
